Nurturing Well-Being and Resilience Among Our Volunteers

Self-Care Day: Nurturing the Well-Being of Our MHPSS Outreach Volunteers

At Nabad for Development, we believe that caring for those who care for others is essential. As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting the mental well-being and resilience of frontline workers, we recently hosted a Self-Care Day for our Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) outreach volunteers.

The day was designed to provide a safe, uplifting space for emotional relief, self-reflection, and peer connection. It began with a grounding breathing exercise, followed by an emotional check-in where participants shared the feelings they brought into the space.

Throughout the day, volunteers took part in a variety of interactive activities:

      • Nonverbal communication exercise to enhance empathy and body awareness

      • “Support messages” activity where participants exchanged anonymous, uplifting notes to strengthen group solidarity

      • Mental health quiz blending psychoeducation with playfulness

      • Collaborative balloon game to foster teamwork, coordination, and trust

A highlight of the day was the shared meal—prepared by the participants themselves—creating a moment of warmth, connection, and appreciation.

The event closed with a final emotional check-in, giving each person a chance to reflect on the feelings they were taking home. Many noted how the day left them feeling recharged, supported, and more connected to their peers, underscoring the vital role of self-care in sustaining the work they do for others.
